Introduction to My Therapy Journey

My journey through therapy has been filled with memorable moments and turning points. These sessions have not only helped me understand my past but also navigate the complexities of my present. One particularly significant moment was during my first therapy session with a therapist during the early days of the pandemic. This encounter was pivotal in opening my eyes to previously unrecognized experiences and traumas.

During our initial conversation, the therapist inquired about my childhood, which I described as ordinary. However, as the discussion progressed, she asked a question that profoundly impacted my perception of my past. She inquired calmly if I believed I had been abused. This question was a revelation as I reflected on my childhood. It was the first time I had considered the possibility of abuse and its impact on my life.

Question That Changed My Life

That question from the therapist sparked a week-long introspective journey. I began questioning my memories and childhood experiences in a way I had never done before. This process led me to realize that I might have been a victim of abuse, a realization that made several pieces of my life fall into place. This change in understanding about my past was a turning point that initiated my long-term therapy journey.

From Trauma to Healing: My Experience with Therapeutic Counseling

One of the most significant events in my therapy was when I revisited the harrowing experience of my rape. This traumatic event occurred two years before I was diagnosed with schizophrenia. A new experimental therapy was introduced during this period, a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy that involved a unique method of finger gestures.

The therapist asked me to pay attention to his finger movements during discussions about the rape. These subtle gestures helped me confront my trauma in a structured and controlled environment. This therapy allowed me to accept my rape for what it was: not my fault. Consequently, this acceptance brought about a profound change in my life.

My appearance and behavior after the rape reflected my fear and anxiety. I gained weight and drastically changed my appearance, aiming to be as unattractive as possible to protect myself from men. However, this experimental therapy helped me overcome these fears and regain my sense of self-worth. I no longer felt terrified in the presence of men and was able to form meaningful connections.

Reflections and Moving Forward

After the therapy, I made a remarkable transformation. I lost the weight I had gained and grew my hair back to its natural length. My relationship with men improved significantly, and I even entered a real relationship that eventually led to marriage. Although the marriage ended, I was able to move past my fears and insecurities due to this therapeutic intervention.

Today, I still retain the notes from these sessions, which serve as a reminder of the journey I've undertaken. I would love to reconnect with the therapist 30 years later to read the final paper from his research on this experimental therapy.

Through these moments, I have come to understand the importance of questioning, self-reflection, and seeking help. These experiences have shaped who I am today and continue to guide me as I navigate life's challenges.
