A Personal Account of Experiencing a Coma and Beyond

My journey through a coma was both surreal and enlightening. Over 16 or 18 days, I found myself in a realm that defied my understanding of reality. While in a coma, I witnessed experiences that challenged my perceptions, including a vivid encounter with Jesus. Though there is more to share, the details are too complex to recount in this format. If you're curious to learn more, feel free to reach out!

Experiencing Nothingness

When I first awoke from a coma, all I felt was a profound sense of drowsiness and confusion. I found myself in a hospital bed, disoriented and trying to comprehend my surroundings. It wasn't until I asked, “Why am I in a hospital,” that I began to piece together my recent events. My initial encounter with the coma began after a traumatic experience.

Injury and Trauma

During the incident, I had received a gunshot wound to the forehead, a moment that would forever be etched in my memory. When I awoke, my first thought was, 'Who hit me on the back of my neck with a sledgehammer?' This remnant of trauma was as vivid as the subsequent events that unfolded before my "eyes." I witnessed myself pacing the rescue helicopter from a distance through the LA smog as it landed in Arcadia, California. From there, I was quickly transferred to a triage area and then underwent surgery to repair the life-threatening situation.

The Vast Void of Nothingness

After the surgery, I entered a void, a space where there was no sensation, no feeling, nothing. It was here that I heard a voice calling for blood. This experience was followed by a gradual return, brought back to life by millions of ice crystals as my body underwent therapeutic hypothermia. The medical term for this process is Targeted Temperature Management, an attempt to slow down my metabolism to minimize further brain damage.

Struggles and Revelations

Once awake, I faced numerous challenges, including sleep apnea and being restrained to keep me still. During one incident, I distinctly remember my mother holding my hand and speaking to me, only to scream and fall back into a peaceful coma. Another time, I felt a burning sensation and removed an unidentified invader. Later, I was restrained at my wrists, ankles, and waist to prevent me from pulling out necessary medical tubes that kept me alive. Returning to consciousness again, I had a disturbing recollection of a spider crawling up my arm, which prompted a doctor to examine me using a Wartenberg pinwheel.

The Medical Backstory

While many individuals report some level of awareness during a coma, my own experiences fall short of this category. However, I do have memories of times when I was given anesthesia for procedures like colonoscopies, such as when a doctor counted down from 100 to 1. I have no recollection of the nurse injecting me, but I do remember waking up in a monitored area (PAR) with a nurse smiling and informing me that I was awake. The doctor then informed me that everything was okay, and my wife was waiting to see me.
