As a working woman in today's fast-paced world, I strive to create a daily routine that is both productive and fulfilling. My goal is to ensure that I can maintain a healthy balance between work, family, and personal wellness. Let me share with you my daily routine.
Daily Routine of a Multi-Faceted Professional
4:00 AM - Early Rise and Fitness
I wake up at 4:00 AM, freshen up, and head to the kitchen to prepare a neembupani—a mixture of salt, a pinch of turmeric, and a piece of orange. This energizes me for the day ahead, especially on days when I head to the gym. Cycling is my preferred mode of exercise, which I complete in about 2 kilometers. After my workout, I return home by 6:30 AM, ready to meet the early morning duties of a parent and wife.
Care of the Family and Self
6:30 AM - 8:00 AM - Family Time and Self-care
I make sure to roust my two daughters—aged 8 and 15—wake them up, prepare their school tiffins, and help them get ready and tied with their Chotis (traditional Indian braids). This period also involves preparing breakfast, lunch, and packing my own tiffin. Following this, I dedicate some time to Tratak Kriya (candle gazing) and meditation, a ritual that helps me manage stress and evoke positive energies.
Work and Personal Time
9:00 AM - 6:00 PM - Office Hours
Once my mornings are complete, I head to the office. My workday typically runs from 9:45 AM to 6:00 PM, during which I focus on professional duties and responsibilities.
6:00 PM - Daily Downtime and Relish
When I return home, I spend a few hours in the living room and kitchen, enjoying breaks, interacting with my kids, and preparing dinner. During this time, I might perform a puja, read scriptures, or simply spend quality time with my children. Sometimes, I also enjoy reading novels and going on long walks with my husband, especially on weekends.
Saturday and Sunday Routines
Saturdays and Sundays - Flexible and Enjoyable
Saturdays are not working days for me, and I take advantage of this to conduct my morning routine, including Tratak Kriya and meditation. After sending my children to school, I either hit the gym, go for a run, or cycle, and then engage in cleaning and meal preparation. Post-school, I spend quality time with them, whether it's watching TV or playing games.
Evening and Bedtime
8:30 PM - 9:00 PM - Family Dinner and Evening Rituals
I serve dinner and then prepare for bed, often reading a book or doing some introspection. My elder daughter goes to her room to sleep, and I spend some quality time with my younger daughter. My husband, after work, prepares for his CA examinations. Our bedtime routine for the evening is completed by around 9:00 PM.
Next Day - Early Start Anew
With the early start the following day, my cycle once again repeats. Despite the structured nature of my routine, it provides a sense of discipline and fulfillment.
Conclusion and Reflection
While many view my routine as robotic, I see it as a blend of discipline and personal enjoyment. I love early mornings and find great satisfaction in my fitness routine, family time, and personal development. My definition of 'time for myself' encompasses personal wellness activities, family interactions, and social gatherings.
