In my 30 years of sobriety, I can attest to having a rare urge to indulge in alcohol. However, I’ve never acted on it. While the urge might persist, it ultimately depends on the underlying causes of past drinking habits and one's current attitude towards alcohol.

The key to resisting the urge lies in recognizing that the risks of drinking outweigh any potential benefits. Once an individual realizes that continued consumption will only lead to potential losses in health, relationships, and overall quality of life, the desire to drink diminishes. Additionally, those who have a balanced perspective on past pleasures, such as enjoying a drink, now recognize the dangers associated with it.

As someone with 38 years of sobriety in AA, I have learned how to release negative thoughts and replace them with positive affirmations.
