Living with Chronic Diseases: A Personal Journey to Wellness

Dealing with chronic diseases is a daily challenge that requires resilience and a positive mindset. My journey with celiac disease and ulcerative colitis has taught me the importance of taking control, practicing gratitude, and finding joy even in the midst of discomfort.

From a Miserable Life to a Better Life

My story began 16 years ago, when my life was fraught with challenges. These chronic diseases restricted my diet, which in turn restricted my life. However, my introduction to Helminthic Therapy (HT) changed everything. By using hookworms to keep both conditions in full remission, I have been able to reclaim my life.

Managing Chronic Diseases with Control and Positivity

I have learned that by taking control of my health, staying positive, and seeking the right help, I can turn a difficult situation around. The approach I have taken includes several key steps:

Seeking Specialist Help: I found specialists who can help me manage these conditions effectively. Practicing Gratitude: Each morning, I focus on three things I am thankful for, regardless of my physical limitations. Finding Joy: I try to laugh when unforeseen circumstances bring joy, such as my dog's squeak toy making an unexpected noise. I also race with others in wheelchairs to keep spirits up. Health Management: I work closely with my primary doctor, maintain a balanced diet, and go to bed at the same time every night to ensure rest and recovery. Mindfulness: I engage in activities like mindfulness yoga, stretching, and prayer to manage pain and stress.

Shifting the Perspective on Pain

Please remember the advice given to me by a pain management doctor: "Don’t let pain be your enemy. Pain is a warning that something is wrong. Find ways to reduce your pain." I decided to take this advice to heart and began incorporating activities such as mindfulness yoga, stretching, and prayer into my daily routine.

A Commitment to Living Fully

While I do not dread the possibility of dying with these diseases, my focus is on living the fullest life possible. I believe in choosing happiness and actively working towards it. Life is too short to waste time feeling sorry for yourself. In moments of pain, I remind myself to stay positive and to make each day count.

My experience with chronic diseases has taught me that life is about resilience and finding joy in unexpected places. Through control, positivity, and unconventional methods like Helminthic Therapy, I have found a way to live a fulfilling life despite the challenges.
