Credible Brain Transplant Attempts: Debunking the Myths

People should ask questions only after having done at least a minimum of one minute thinking about it. There are far too many ridiculous 'brain transplant' type of questions given the supposed Quora age limitation and what should be taught in today's high schools.

No Credible Attempts

No credible attempts have been made to transplant a human brain in a way that would result in long-term success. Some animal experiments have been done, but nearly always using an entire head and not just the brain itself. These experiments have not been successful in the long term.

No Feasibility with Current Technology

It is absolutely not feasible with today's technology, or with tomorrow's or the next day's for that matter. The technical complexities of connecting even a single nerve fiber from a donor and having it work are incredibly difficult with our current level of knowledge. You're now talking about connecting millions and millions of nerve cells. How are you going to 'hook them up'? How are you going to prevent graft rejection? How are you going to keep the body 'alive' while you are removing one, bringing it, and reinstalling the new one?

As for the availability of a perfectly good brain to transplant, just grabbing someone off the street and offering them money for their brain sounds like a morally and ethically questionable proposition. On the personal note, my wife might advise that my brain is in a relatively unused state, but I wouldn't be willing to part with it for any amount of money.

Stem Cells and Brain Transplantation

Stem cells are not going to help you 'transplant' a brain unless you are planning to regrow one from scratch. Let me know when you have succeeded. Given the ability to clone whole living animals, such as Dolly the sheep, the brain comes with it. If you are planning on cloning humans and taking their brains, you should be writing horror science fiction stories, not wasting your time on Quora.

Controversial Research and Skepticism

There is a researcher who claims to be close to a breakthrough. That would be Sergio Canavaro. While I do not personally agree with his methods, sending him money would be a personal choice. However, in my opinion, he is a charlatan and a birkman. It's a joke though; I've only written around 10 answers on this subject.

Conclusion

In summary, the concept of a brain transplant is far from reality with current medical and technological capabilities. The complexity and ethical considerations make it an extremely challenging and unlikely endeavor.
