Personal Experiences with Vipassana Retreat Facilities

My first Vipassana retreat was at Dhamma ādicca in Japan, located southeast of Tokyo. The center offers dormitory-style sleeping options and single-person tent accommodation. I chose to sleep in the dormitory, which was similar to the one in Singapore, featuring no partitions and thin mattresses. It was winter, with temperatures dropping to well below 0°C, making the dormitory quite cold. Those sleeping in the tents faced more challenges due to the harsh cold.

My second retreat was in Johor, Malaysia, at the Johor Saleng Eco Village. This unique space, once a small vacation village, has been converted into an eco-farm and is often rented to the Vipassana Association. The retreat center provides sleeping rooms for 2-3 people, equipped with air conditioning and thick mattresses. This made the experience more comfortable, especially during the retreat's duration in the winter months.
