Introduction to Sleep Paralysis

Sleep paralysis is a frightening phenomenon that occurs during the transition between sleep and wakefulness. It involves individuals feeling paralyzed and often hallucinating during this state. Today, I want to share two of my most terrifying experiences with sleep paralysis, which will shed light on the common occurrences and emphasis on personal experiences in understanding this phenomenon.

My First Sleep Paralysis Experience

When I was younger, my nights were filled with long, arduous hours working on various projects or reading until the early hours. During one particularly unsettling night, I felt as if I was sleepwalking with my eyes open, witnessing shadowed figures that were darker than any shade of black. The rooms around me, concealing darkness behind closet doors and on the ceiling, seemed to come alive with ominous figures.

One of my biggest fears is when people stare at me for too long. My sleep paralysis seemed to know this and focused on it. Despite this, in those couple of seconds of a figure's stare, my stomach contracted in dread. The figures only stared, but my will to look away seemed absent. The force that kept my eyes open was a stark contrast to my fear, but it felt inevitable.

I realized that I had been staring for more than two minutes without blinking once. The shock of realizing I was awake during this period of paralysis helped me regain control and snap out of it. Upon blinking, the figures had disappeared, and I found myself in the early morning light. Upon waking, I was still in the same position, a surreal feeling of being both asleep and awake.

Paranormal Experience During Sleep Paralysis

From the age of 13, I've had many sleep paralysis experiences, often involving paranormal elements. In one particular nightmare, I was in a rural setting, dealing with a jinn, a supernatural being in Islamic religion. A hijabi (a woman wearing a hijab) wandered into the scene and somehow convinced me to help her despite the ominous feeling I had about her. Suddenly, heavy rain began, and I could see her smiling face. I recited AYATUL KURSIA (a protection verse), and with each step I took, the rain intensified until I could barely feel the water. I then heard bone cracking sounds and saw the woman move closer to me.

As the woman appeared closer, I felt as though she was invoking her power over me. The vision seemed to be a mix of horror and religious protection. Eventually, a villager threw a wet fish at the woman, causing her to scream and disperse into dust. However, the moment before this scene unfolded, I woke up, paralyzed and unable to move, my vision still blurry but seeing a dark figure with a black cloth around it. I felt hands on my neck, and I could not move.

Was the figure I saw a jinn, or was it just my mind playing tricks on me during this time of paralysis? This experience and many others like it highlight the eerie and often inexplicable nature of sleep paralysis.

Common Sleep Paralysis Occurrences

Understanding sleep paralysis involves knowing common occurrences and symptoms. During these episodes, individuals often experience:

Paralysis, making it difficult or impossible to move or speak Visual, auditory, or tactile hallucinations Sensations of pressure or an evil presence Feelings of being unable to breathe, causing panic

These experiences are not just limited to certain individuals; they can affect anyone, regardless of age or belief system. Understanding these phenomena can help alleviate anxiety and provide a scientific explanation for these terrifying experiences.

Conclusion

While sleep paralysis is a deeply unsettling experience, sharing and discussing these episodes can help demystify them. My experiences, whether involving shadowed figures or religious beings, are part of a larger community of individuals who have had similar encounters. By understanding more about sleep paralysis, we can better support each other during these times of fear.
