Exploring Hinduism: My Journey and Belief in Sanatana Dharma
My journey into Hinduism and the belief in Sanatana Dharma has been a profoundly personal and transformative one. It began during a pivotal moment in my life, a time when alternative paths of spirituality were gaining traction. Inspired by the teachings of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, I embarked on a quest that would shape my understanding and practice of spiritual life.
BEGINNING WITH TM
It all started in 1970, when I, a college student in Chicago, had the privilege of witnessing Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. His presence and teachings resonated deeply within me, igniting a desire to explore meditation and spiritual practices. Timely they were, as I found myself intrigued by the potential of tapas (spiritual disciplines) that would further my spiritual journey.
MEDITATION AND SPIRITUAL TRAVEL
By late 1974, I was ready to dive deeper into my spiritual exploration. I left the United States and embarked on a journey overland, traveling from Istanbul to India. This marked the beginning of a life-long commitment to meditation and Hindu spirituality. Since then, spiritual practices have been the cornerstone of my existence.
INHERITANCE FROM TRADITIONAL BRAHMIN PAST
I was born into a traditional Brahmin family in South India, a place where the influence of Sanatana Dharma was deeply ingrained in daily life. There was never a moment when I had to consciously embrace Hinduism or Sanatana Dharma; it was simply the fabric of our existence from a very young age. Whether involved in secular pursuits or bolstered by spiritual inclinations, our family always maintained a strong connection to our spiritual roots.
DEEPening Spiritual INFLUENCE
We never strayed from our spiritual path or let go of our spiritual inclination. Even during the pursuit of worldly pursuits, the practice and belief in Hindu spirituality remained a constant thread in our lives. It wasn't merely something to be practiced, but an integral part of our identity and way of life.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
My journey into Sanatana Dharma and Hinduism has been characterized by a deep and enduring belief in the spiritual power and wisdom inherent in these traditions. It is not just a religion but a way of life that has guided me through various challenges and brought unprecedented peace and fulfillment.
