Finding Guidance in Meditation: Tips and Insights
Who Should I Talk to If I Have Questions about Meditation?
Transcendental Meditation (TM) has been a journey of profound transformation for me over the years. TM, when taught properly by a trained teacher, provides exceptional benefits that are often lacking in other techniques. As a true practitioner, I can attest to its effortless nature and the profound benefits it can bring.
My Journey with TM
I began my TM practice intensively, dedicating 20 minutes three times a day, for a total of 60 minutes. For eight months, I practiced this rigorous schedule, until finally witnessing the effects. The Bible's advice to ‘lay on your bed and spend time with your third eye’ resonated with me. However, laying down might disrupt the stillness you seek. Hence, sitting in a chair can be more helpful, anchoring one of your brains by thinking of your right hand. As you progress, the hand may rise toward your forehead but without touching it due to its magnetic power which helps to still the mind.
Asking the Right Questions
When you are ready to explore the nuances of TM or other meditation practices, feel free to ask specific, actionable questions. It's important to frame your questions as 'how' questions. For instance, instead of asking 'why is this happening' or 'what will be next,' focus on actions that can be taken. Here's an example question: 'I am currently focusing on the breath and thoughts will not calm down beyond a specific point. How should I proceed?' A question like this is far easier to answer and will guide you more effectively in your practice.
The Best Environment for Meditation
For a truly effective meditation session, choose a place where you can fully immerse yourself without external disturbances. The best place is often your own space, free from other people and their sounds. This environment allows you to focus and achieve a deep state of stillness and serenity.
Post-Meditation States and Experiences
It's important to understand that questioning post-meditation states is not necessary. Meditation itself provides profound insights and clears any doubts. For a true meditator, sharing experiences is not encouraged as it distracts from the true practice.
Questions to Ask Your Teacher
For any specific questions you may have, consider asking your TM teacher or a certified meditation instructor. They can offer personalized insights and guidance based on your specific journey and needs. Remember, while my experiences are valuable, they may not directly translate to yours. Seek guidance from those who have been trained to teach and guide you through your meditation practice.
Ultimately, the key to a successful meditation practice lies in consistency and the willingness to ask the right questions. With the guidance of a trained professional and a commitment to your practice, you can unlock the full potential of TM and other meditation techniques.
