From Prank to Panic: A Medical Student’s Scary Encounter
As a first-year medical student, I faced many challenges adjusting to the new environment. My journey to medical school began with online classes, which allowed us to interact and make connections before the official campus life started. The excitement and confusion of forming social groups and navigating the different channels of communication can be overwhelming for any new student. However, one prank turned into a terrifying experience, which taught me a valuable lesson about college decorum and the consequences of our actions.
Initial Setup and Social Groups
When the college transitioned to official groups, both formal and informal, I was faced with a sudden social media boost. Previously, I was unable to engage much on social media, but now I was part of up to ten groups. Balancing the different groups required some organization, but it also meant I had to familiarize myself with the college environment quickly.
During a class, a student mentioned that not everyone was part of the informal group. On a whim, I decided to create a post in the official group asking those who hadn't joined the informal group to do so. I knew it was a bold move, but my mischief instincts kicked in. To the surprise of some, the action sparked a reaction that put me in a precarious situation.
The Prank Gone Wrong
My simple message in the official group, “This is the informal chat grp of all batchmates. All please join,” set off a series of events. The boys cheered me on, some were frightened, while others left the informal group. I had an uneasy feeling as I pondered the response from the college.
After a short period of anxiety, I received a message from someone—a message that seemed like it would change my life forever. Amongst the panic and dizziness that followed, I trembled with fear, contemplating the years of hard work and dedication that were suddenly at risk. Thoughts of what my parents and relatives would think further constricted my already tense situation.
The Callback and the Resolution
After staying calm, I sent a message to my group, and the reactions were varied. Some left, while others remained skeptical. However, my nerves were soon calmed when I received a second message that the first was a prank. The message read, “Are bhai, mai tera batchmate hi hu, mazaak krra tha, ghabraio mat.”
I remember feeling immense relief and a mix of laughter and anger. The prankster’s attempt at humor showed a connection that I had been ambivalent about. The message from the Dean and the HODs also reassured me that I had not done anything wrong and that my prank was seen as just a harmless joke. This experience taught me a valuable lesson about the importance of understanding college decorum and the potential consequences of our actions.
Now, as a seasoned student, I reflect on the prank that turned into a terrifying encounter. It underscores the importance of embracing the new environment and understanding the expectations of the institution. Despite the anxiety and the looming fear, I learned to stay positive and work hard towards my goals.
