Understanding C-PTSD

Emotional trauma and C-PTSD involve a profound impact on mental and emotional health. This form of trauma is often associated with prolonged exposure to emotional, physical, or sexual abuse.

My Story

My personal journey with emotional trauma began in my early years. As a young child, I was not welcomed into this world. Influenced by the people around me, I internalized a deep belief that I was unlovable and burdensome. This belief profoundly shaped my self-perception and emotions.

In my 20s, a relationship filled with domestic violence further exacerbated my conditions. During this time, I was diagnosed with PTSD, though therapy was scarce. I relied on self-help methods to cope, which provided temporary relief but did not completely heal the underlying trauma.

One critical turning point came in 2021, following a traumatic accident. The high level of stress and trauma led to a full-blown PTSD episode. This time, I sought professional help, including trauma therapy, imaginary exposure, sensorimotor psychotherapy, music therapy, and mindfulness practices. These interventions marked a significant shift in my ability to manage the trauma.

The Healing Process

Healing from emotional trauma is a lifelong process, influenced by various factors such as the severity of the trauma, access to resources, and personal resilience. For me, the timeline was not a linear path.

From 2006 to 2021, I continued to battle PTSD on my own. While I found ways to mentally cope, my body remained in a state of heightened alertness. Physical symptoms often persisted, making the recovery process challenging and exhausting.

It wasn't until 2021 that I began to see significant changes. The therapies I underwent, including sensorimotor psychotherapy, music therapy, and mindfulness practices, transformed my approach to managing the aftermath of my trauma. I learned to recognize triggers and develop strategies to navigate them effectively.

Today, I can proudly say that I have reconnected with my life. While I still face occasional triggers, I have developed the resilience to overcome them. The pivotal shift was recognizing that my past is a part of me, but it does not define me. I have turned my past into a source of strength and purpose, using it to help others.
