For 14 months, I followed a diet that focused on rice and vegetables, along with fruits and porridge, and brown bread. I also made a conscious effort to increase my water intake and switch to mostly green tea, while occasionally enjoying coffee. The results have been incredible. My IBS symptoms have been almost completely managed, and I have lost 77 pounds (approximately 5? stone), which was a substantial improvement in my overall health.
Managing Symptoms with Medications and Other Approaches
There are various medications that can help manage symptoms of IBS, such as medications that draw fluid into the stool, those that increase or decrease motility, and fiber-rich additives. Additionally, treating depression and anxiety can also help regulate bowel movements. For some individuals, breaking the cycle of constipation and diarrhea by going off narcotics for a period can also be beneficial. Everyone's journey with IBS is unique, and what works for one person may not work for another. It's important to find a personalized approach to managing the condition.
