Is a Marijuana Smoker Eligible for Heaven?
The question of whether a marijuana smoker can go to heaven is a common one, but it is often misunderstood. Based on biblical teachings, this article explores the concept of heaven and the specifics of who might attain it.
Universal Truths About Heaven
Most fundamentally, according to the Bible, the majority of mankind will not go to heaven but rather have a unique and wonderful future on earth. This is consistent with the teachings of the Bible, which state that the vast majority of humanity will have a different but valuable existence. However, there is a select "little flock" that God has chosen for a heavenly calling.
According to the New American Standard Bible, Luke 12:32:
Do not be afraid, little flock, because your Father has chosen to give you the kingdom.
The "Little Flock": Who Makes Up This Group?
The "little flock" are individuals who have received God's Holy Spirit and are chosen by Him for this unique calling. This group is comprised of people who acknowledge God's presence in their lives and are guided by the Holy Spirit. The teachings of the Bible show that God tests and convinces these individuals through the Holy Spirit that they are adopted children of God.
According to Galatians 4:6-7 and Romans 8:14–17:
These understand that the Spirit testifies with their spirit that they are HIS adopted children.
The "Little Flock": How Many and Their Task in Heaven
Another passage from the Book of Revelation indicates that the number of individuals comprising the "little flock" is exactly 144,000, consisting of both men and women who are redeemed from the earth. This number is specified in Revelation 14:1-3. The purpose of this heavenly calling is to rule over the earth with Jesus Christ.
Upon arriving in heaven, these individuals will share in the governance of the earth, as described in Revelation 5:9-10. The question arises: if all good people go to heaven, who will Jesus and this "little flock" rule over?
The Future of Humanity
The Bible provides insight into the future of humanity beyond heaven. According to Revelation 7:9-13-14, all those who survive the Tribulation and Armageddon will have a chance to rule in the new age, alongside the resurrected dead who love God and obey His will. This kingdom will be established on a restored paradise earth, free from war, crime, poverty, corruption, sickness, and death. As stated in 2 Peter 3:13 and Revelation 21:1-4:
As God originally purposed for mankind, they will gain everlasting life on a new earth that has been restored to a state of paradise.
This restoration is described as the "paradise" that Jesus promised to a criminal on the cross, as recorded in Luke 23:43. The earth will gradually be transformed into a paradise where all God-loving individuals have the opportunity for everlasting life in a world free from suffering and evil.
