1-2 tablespoons red food coloring for color (optional)Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Chicken
Clean the chicken pieces and make deep cuts in them to allow the marinade to penetrate.
Step 2: Make the Marinade
In a large bowl, combine the yogurt, lemon juice, oil, ginger paste, garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. If you want a vibrant color, you can add the red food coloring.
Step 3: Marinate the Chicken
Add the chicken pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight. The longer you marinate, the more flavorful the chicken will be.
Step 4: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). If you have a tandoor, you can use it as well.
Step 5: Bake the Chicken
Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. Arrange the marinated chicken pieces on the rack with space between each piece to ensure even cooking.
Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and has a nice char.
Step 6: Broil for Extra Char
If you want extra char, switch to the broil setting for the last 5 minutes, keeping a close eye to prevent burning.
Step 7: Serve
Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve with lemon wedges and your favorite chutney or sauce. Enjoy your homemade Tandoori Chicken!
