Overcoming Habits: The Worst Thing That Happened When I Quit Drinking and Coffee
The Worst Thing That Happened When I Quit Drinking and Coffee
Quitting habits, whether it's alcohol or caffeine, can bring about intense challenges. Here, I'll share my experiences and how I managed to navigate through the tough times, ultimately leading to a life-changing transformation.
Quitting Drinking
When I decided to quit drinking, all depended on the level of my alcohol toxicity. Beer, although moderately toxic, can be quite harmless unless consumed in excessive amounts. Hard liquors such as Scotch, Gin, and Vodka, on the other hand, have a more profound effect. It's crucial to stay away from these potent alternatives.
One of the most challenging aspects was the inability to sleep. My mind remained so wired that it was extremely difficult to fall asleep. The next day, I felt a zombie-like state, dragged down by exhaustion and profound fatigue. Add to that the intense and frightening nightmares, and it was a nightmare experience.
Thankfully, everything normalized after around 3-4 days. To manage the difficulty in falling asleep, I found that taking a combination of Valerian, Kava, or Magnesium one hour before bed significantly helped in inducing sleep. In Australia, another great option was Doxylamine succinate, which is a sleep aid that can be purchased over the counter. However, it's important to avoid taking this for extended periods; ideally, 2 weeks or less is recommended to prevent any dependency issues.
Confronting Myself: A Life-Changing Journey
The hardest part of my journey involved facing myself in all my manipulative and lying behaviors. It was a painful and humbling experience to acknowledge the wrongs I had done and to rectify them. When I finally came to terms with my actions, it felt like I was living in hell, an absolute hell. The guilt and regret were overwhelming, and I found myself contemplating a relapse, which I had so hardworkingly avoided.
But there was also a silver lining in this darkness. This experience ultimately led to the best worst thing that ever happened to me. It was a pivotal moment in my life where I realized the importance of honesty and integrity, both with myself and others.
Quitting Coffee Due to Anaphylaxis
Another significant change in my life was quitting coffee due to anaphylaxis and subsequent acute renal damage. Initially, I had to give up coffee and started to miss it, especially with my pre-breakfast cigarettes. However, once my creatinine levels stabilized, I was able to reintroduce coffee with ease. My experience showed that sometimes, health issues can force upon us major changes, but these changes can lead to a healthier life and a better understanding of our bodies.
In conclusion, the process of quitting habits can be incredibly challenging. It requires patience, support, and a willingness to confront uncomfortable truths. Yet, the rewards of overcoming these habits are immeasurable, leading to a healthier, more fulfilling life.
