Prayers for a Deeper Walk with God: Gratitude, Petitions, and Written Prayers
Can you write a prayer that includes gratitude and petitions for a deeper walk with God? Do you believe in keeping a few written prayers around for slow times?
Writing Prayers of Gratitude and Petition
A prayer is a heartfelt conversation with God, a way to express our thanks and desires to our Divine Creator. Below is an original prayer written for 09/08/2018, which includes elements of gratitude, humility, and a petition for a deeper walk with God:
Almighty and Everlasting Father, I thank You that You hear and answer our prayers! I humbly bow before You in the Name of Yeshua Jesus Christ Your Son, because He said that whatsoever we ask for in His Name shall be done if we believe.
Father, I thank You for the spared life to the present time and hour, and for all that You have done for me. Thank You that I am yet in the land of the living where I can praise Your Holy and Matchless Name and for all the blessings that You have bestowed upon me and my loved ones. Thank You for meeting all our needs and protecting us from harm and danger, and from the adversary. Thank You, O Father, for what is yet to come.
Lord, I am Your servant, and the sheep of Your pasture. Guide me by Your Holy Spirit, and teach me to know You better day by day. Without You, I can do nothing, my God and my Redeemer. Forgive any wrongs that I may have done, consciously or unconsciously, and show me the error of my ways so that I may correct them and not repeat them in the future.
Let Your Holy Word be written in my heart and grant me wisdom, knowledge, and understanding that I may help others who are seeking to know You. Sanctify me for Your work's sake and fill me until my heart overflows! Let Your Word be a lamp unto my feet and a light to my pathway that I may walk in the Footprints of Yeshua Jesus, Your Son, who died and rose again that we may live!
I pray for those who do not know You, Lord: in the East, West, North, South, and Center of this world. Send someone to share Your Holy Word with them, including those that I may know. Help me to help them reveal the truth and enable me to minister to them in Your name. Strengthen my faith and my boldness to teach Your Word!
Remember those who are sick, Lord. Send healing to homes and hospitals and any place where your people need it. Dear Lord, make shelter and food available to those who are homeless and hungry. Let those who are fortunate help the unfortunate by breaking down their stony hearts and giving them hearts of compassion toward those in need. Help us to remember to love our neighbor as ourselves!
My God, please protect the children of the world from harm and danger from pedophiles, abusers, and human traffickers. Keep them safe and secure in Thy tender loving arms.
I pray for every church, chapel, and ministering servant of Your Gospel. Father, reveal the wolves in sheep clothing who are preying upon those seeking to know You. Let Your Peace that passes all understanding reign in this world!
In Yeshua Jesus’ name, I pray! Amen.
Using Written Prayers for Spiritual Strengthening
While I prefer to pray directly from my heart, I have found that writing prayers can be a powerful tool for spiritual growth and moments of reflection. Below are two written prayers from Chapters of Life by Tuesday Lobsang Rampa:
Morning and Evening Prayers
Although the original book's title is not mentioned, these prayers can be used three times in the morning and evening for added spiritual depth:
MORNING PRAYER
To My OverSelf I pray, Let me this day living my life day by day in the manner prescribed, control and direct my imagination. Let me this day living my life day by day in the manner prescribed, control my desires and my thoughts that I be purified thereby. Let me this day and all days keep my imagination and my thoughts directed firmly upon the task which has to be accomplished that success may come thereby. I will at all times live my life day by day controlling imagination and thought.EVENING PRAYER
Keep me free from evil thoughts. Keep me free from the blackness of despair. At the time of my misery, shine a light into the darkness that enshrouds me. Let my every thought be good and clean. Let my every action be for the good of others. Let me be positive in my thoughts that my mind may be strengthened therefrom. I am the Master of my Destiny. As I think today, so am I tomorrow. Let me therefore avoid all evil thoughts. Let me avoid all thoughts which cause distress to others. Let my Spirit arise within me that I may easily succeed in the task that lies ahead. I am the Master of my Destiny. So be it.These prayers can be a great aid during slow times, reinforcing positive thoughts and actions and promoting a deeper connection with God.
