Reflections on a Mother’s Health and Legacy
Reflections on a Mother's Health and Legacy
Family Stories and the Challenges of Love:
Three years ago, my mother was involved in a fall that led to a broken hip. What made matters worse was the unfortunate timing; the operation was delayed due to the pandemic and the unavailability of medical care. During those five days, my mother was confined to her bed, immobile and in immense pain, with no attendants to offer her any comfort or assistance. Her blood sugar levels soared due to the trauma, and she subsequently developed diabetes. After the surgery, she became weaker, but her spirit remained strong. Despite her physical frailty, she continued to perform household chores and cater to her husband's needs, showcasing her resilience and strength.
Though we haven't seen or heard from her for two decades, some believe that she has passed away. However, she is alive, albeit in a weakened state. The love and care that she has given to others over the years have taken a toll on her. She has endured a second diagnosis of cancer, a slow and painful journey. Despite the abuse and toxic nature of her behavior, she enriches the lives of those around her. It is a stark reminder of the complex dynamics of familial love and the impact of societal and personal experiences.
Strength and Selfless Service:
My mother is a woman of immense strength who has dedicated her life to serving others. She has worked tirelessly, providing social services and performing household tasks. She even spent hours grinding dosa batter and other traditional Indian preparations, which she did without complaint. Her good intentions often went unappreciated, and she was used for her services, despite the fact that many used her inappropriately. While I was unable to fully support her emotionally, the world is filled with wicked people, and she provided unwavering support to others.
She was a pure soul and a force for good, often fasting on special days like Sankat Chauth, Ganesh, and Navratri. Her belief in God was strong, and she felt that her purpose was to struggle and help others. However, my attempts to reason with her met with little success. She needed no attention or help, and her struggles were a long journey of serving others and cleansing others' souls.
Imagining Her Future:
My mother has shown resilience and strength throughout her life. She is now growing weaker, but her mind remains clear and her spirit remains unbreakable. If given another chance, she would no doubt continue to serve others. God, please do not give her another chance to be a human but grant her a life of water in her next birth, blessing her with the ability to cleanse and soothe. May she rest in peace and find the comfort she deserves.
Resilience and Love:
Reflecting on my mother's health and legacy, it is clear that love and service have always been the driving forces in her life. Despite the challenges and the abuse, she still finds ways to bring positivity and strength into the lives of others. While I may not have fully understood the intricacies of her emotional and spiritual journey, I am thankful for the moments I did share with her and the lessons she taught me about resilience and selflessness.
