The most essential thing I have learned about mental health is that self-care comes first. It is so vital that neglecting it could lead to struggles in survival. Self-care goes beyond the physical, encompassing intellectual and emotional health as well. This includes eating well, exercising, socializing, engaging in hobbies, and more.

Why Mental Health is Critical to Overall Well-being

Mental health is as important as physical health. A strong mental state contributes to feelings of happiness, confidence, and contentment. It fosters acceptance of oneself and provides the motivation needed to pursue goals and feel a sense of purpose. Neglecting even the slightest signs of depression, stress, or anxiety can greatly impact your overall well-being.

Mental Health’s Role in Success

A mentally resilient individual is better equipped to achieve good health, strong relationships, a fulfilling social life, and satisfaction in their work. Overthinking or attaching excessive thoughts to things beyond our control can drain our mental energy. Let's explore some habits that deplete this precious resource and discuss ways to cultivate mental resilience.

Overthinking about Other People

Our minds tend to focus on other people's lives, often without direct control over their actions or decisions. This can be a significant drain on mental energy. While reading magazines, listening to the news, or even gossiping, we can find ourselves preoccupied with thoughts about celebrities, politicians, or even friends and family. These thoughts can lead to the absorption of their negative energy, impacting our speech and actions.

Instead of indulging in such thoughts, we should focus on recognizing and improving our own flaws, taking on responsibilities, prioritizing our health, and engaging in activities that bring us joy. If we are in a position to help others or provide advice, doing so effectively utilizes our time and preserves mental energy.

Living in the Past

The past can be a significant source of emotional pain and negativity. Reflecting or discussing past events can recreate these emotions, making us emotionally vulnerable. A small trigger can cause irrational reactions. It's wise to let go of the past and focus on the present moment.
