The Purpose of Jesus Ministry and the Hope of God’s Kingdom
The Purpose of Jesus' Ministry and the Hope of God’s Kingdom
The purpose of Jesus' ministry was not only to teach but to heal and bring hope to those in need. In Isaiah 53:1-12, we see a profound prophecy about the life and mission of Jesus, which was already foretold over two thousand years before his birth. Specifically, in verse 45, it is stated that He was foretold to suffer and die, but also to bring salvation. This prophecy provides a clear understanding of the significance of Jesus' mission to preach the Kingdom of God and to be its King.
Understanding Jesus' Ministry
Isaiah's prophecy was written long before Jesus' birth, yet it accurately foretold his life, which includes the healing of the sick and the teaching of the word. Jesus chose to minister in Galilee, where he travelled extensively, teaching and healing a variety of infirmities. His ministry was not a foregone conclusion; rather, it was at a specific time, as God had ordained.
Why, then, did Jesus not heal those with disabilities during the times of David, Solomon, Daniel, and Jeremiah? The answer lies in the timing. Proverbs 3:1 reminds us that there is a time for everything, and a time for every activity under the heavens. God’s plan unfolds at His appointed time, and when that time came, Jesus ministered to those in need. He came to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to bring healing and hope to a broken world.
Jesus' work was not just a one-time event but a mission that spanned three years. Despite the brevity of His ministry, He accomplished what He set out to do. He demonstrated His power and authority, and He passed on the hope of God's Kingdom to His apostles, who were given the power to strengthen the faith of the people.
However, as time passed, the gifts of healing eventually ceased, as Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 12:8-30 and 13:8-13. But through the Bible, we have the assurance of something much better: the eternal hope of God’s Kingdom. In Revelation 7:17-21 and 21:1-8, and Isaiah 25:8, 65:16-25, we are given a glimpse of a future where disease and death are no more, and man's future is eternal, free from the ravages of sin and death.

The Bible tells us that God knows the heart of man and that a heart change is necessary for true spiritual growth.
