Understanding FSSAI Registration and Licensing Fees in India

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a crucial regulatory body in India responsible for ensuring food safety across the country. Registered businesses must comply with the regulations set by FSSAI, one of which is the payment of licensing fees. These fees are based on the type of business and can vary significantly.

FSSAI Registration and Licensing Fees Structure

The basic registration fee for an FSSAI Food Safety and Standards Authority of India registration varies depending on the type of registration required. Below is a detailed breakdown of the typical fees:

Basic Registration

Typically, the basic registration for small food businesses incurs an annual fee of around 100 INR.

State License

The state license fees range from 3000 to 5000 INR per year, depending on the size and type of the business. For example, a 4-star hotel might need to pay 5000 INR. Similarly, a manufacturer or miller who produces 501 to 2500 MT of milk solids per annum or has a production of above 1MT per day would also need to pay 5000 INR. For smaller operations, the fee is typically 3000 INR.

Central License

The central license fees range from 7500 to 15000 INR per year. Larger businesses or those involved in import/export would fall into this category.

Current Fee Information

It’s essential to stay updated with the current FSSAI fee structure, as these fees can change. Always check the official FSSAI website or consult with a professional for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

State Licensing Cost

For businesses that require a state FSSAI license, the costs are as follows:

4-star Hotels

The FSSAI license fee for 4-star hotels is 5000 INR.

Manufacturers and Mills

A manufacturer and miller producing 501 to 2500 MT of milk solids per annum or 10001 to 50000 LPD of milk, or above 1 MT of milk per day, needs to pay 5000 INR. If the same manufacturer or miller produces less than 1 MT of milk or 501 to 10000 LPD of milk, or 2.5 MP to 500 MT of milk solids per annum, the FSSAI license fee is 3000 INR.

Food Business Vendors and Other Operators

Food business vendors and other food business operators, including clubs, restaurants, and boarding houses, need to pay 2000 INR for their FSSAI license. Food businesses serving canteens in schools, colleges, and institutions, as well as caterers and banquet halls with food catering arrangements, also pay 2000 INR.

Renewal and Duplicate Licenses

The renewal cost for an FSSAI license depends on the number of years selected. For a duplicate license, the cost will be 10% of the applicable license cost.
