Unraveling the Essence of True Love and Happiness

True love feels significantly different from infatuation, obsession, or lust. Each of these states of attraction offers a unique experience, yet none match the profound depth and selflessness that true love brings to a relationship.

The Mocking of Infatuation

When I am consumed by infatuation, I would do anything to please you, but with a limited extent. This often includes acts of kindness, such as visiting you at the hospital or cooking for you when I'm not well. However, as soon as you're in serious trouble, I will prioritize my personal survival over your wellbeing. In essence, I only act out of a flimsy sense of duty or spite.

The Temporary Bliss of Obsession

When I am in a state of lust, I am solely focused on my own gratification. During the act of intimacy, there is no attempt to please or satisfy the other person. It is a transaction where the focus is on my own pleasure, and once fulfilled, I will quickly move on. My only desire is to fulfill the most urgent of desires, and once satiated, I will walk away, often leaving the other person to fend for themselves.

The Selfless Devotion of True Love

True love, however, is a selfless devotion. It is not about personal pleasure but about making the other person happy. It is where we share a deep connection that transcends physical attraction. True love brings about a profound joy, a feeling that no other form of love can replicate. We become so entwined that the simple pleasures in life, such as the food someone eats, become a source of shared happiness. There is no ego, jealousy, or power struggles; only pure joy and mutual support.

The Downside of True Love

While true love brings immense joy, it also comes with its challenges. When we are deeply in love, we often get upset when they are with someone else, no matter how small the interaction. This is due to the fear that the love we share will be taken away. If the relationship were to end, the loss would be devastating, and life would feel bleak. We may lash out in anger and resentment, and when we find someone who is not quite as amazing, we cannot help but compare. The world seems dull and empty in comparison.

Preserving True Love

Therefore, if we are fortunate enough to find true love, we must cherish it like a precious gem. We must be vigilant and aware that true love is a fleeting feeling, and it is our responsibility to nurture it and protect it. True love is not just a fleeting moment, but a profound and lasting experience that enriches our lives in a way that no other form of love can match. It is a gift that we must hold close and carry with us every day.
