Wealth, Happiness, and Health: A Threefold Choice

Imagine you are faced with a decision: pick two out of wealth, happiness, and health, and you cannot change your choice afterward. How do you decide? This essay explores the choices between these three essential elements of life, as narrated by one individual. Let's dive into the journey of prioritizing health and happiness over wealth.

From the Perspective of a Health-Challenged Individual

Mine is a story of health failing at a time when one might need it the most. But amidst the challenges, happiness remains a top priority. As someone who has seen the value of these three elements, I have a clear perspective on what truly matters.

Why Wealth is Out of the Picture

Wealth, although nice, pales in comparison to health and happiness. Life experiences have shown that money cannot buy happiness and that a person can be rich in resources but poor in well-being. When money was deemed less important, it was cut from the choices.

Why Health Prevails

Health is not just about physical well-being. It encompasses mental and emotional states too. For the individual speaking, health is beginning to fail, and this has restricted what they can do. Insurance coverage is a significant issue, making even a trip to a foreign country a challenge. Despite the growing concerns and potential future challenges, the priority remains on health over wealth.

Balancing Life with Happiness

While health is a priority, happiness is also crucial. A day-to-day happiness that cannot be bought, but rather earned through effort and choice, has always been a focus in their lives. Despite their natural inclination towards introversion and pessimism, they have chosen to be outgoing and upbeat, making choices that require immense energy and time for recovery.

The Importance of Community and Support

Love and happiness have played significant roles in their journey. They see themselves earning their way up 'by their bootstraps,' starting from a position far below zero and making progress. Family and friends are a vital part of their support system, providing comfort and happiness even when health challenges arise. Their mother's passing also serves as a reminder of the value of family and happiness, as the family celebrated her life instead of mourning, making the event a source of joy and remembrance.

Fame, which wasn't part of the original question, is something they are glad they don't have. They prefer being known and appreciated by a close circle of friends instead of dealing with the general public.
