Why Disable Comments on Quora Answers: An SEO Perspective
Why Disable Comments on Quora Answers: An SEO Perspective
I didn't realize I was doing that until something really got under my skin. As an answer writer on Quora, I turn off comments on older questions once I've given people enough time to provide feedback. This way, I don't feel compelled to follow up endlessly. Prior to Quora's reduction in moderator presence, I rarely disabled comments. Now, to prevent trolls from using my comments section for insults, spam, or other negative behavior, I disable comments.
While I don't disable comments entirely, I do try to manage the feedback process by turning off the section after a certain period. It's about maintaining a clean and constructive environment for discussion. If you encounter a question with comments disabled, it could simply mean the writer prefers a more controlled dialogue.
Understanding Quora's Operation
Quora is meant to be a QA forum, not a debating platform. The fundamental principle is:
Qu - Question
OR - or
A - Answer.
Users have the right to allow or deny comments on their content. If you encounter a question with comments disabled, it means the original poster has chosen to do so. Some users disable comments because of the proliferation of trolls, while others are overwhelmed by the volume of feedback. Additionally, some writers selectively disable comments on answers that might attract negative content.
Reasons for Disabling Comments on Answers
There are several reasons why answer writers disable comments. Here are a few common ones:
Personal Blocking: Some answer writers block users they don't want to engage with. Profile Settings: Writers can disable comments on specific answers or all their answers. Troll Management: Without adequate moderator presence, some writers prefer to manage their own comments to ensure they are civil and accurate. Unpleasantness Prevention: Some writers avoid dealing with unpleasant commenters. Unmonitored Comment Spaces: Writers might disable comments after a week to prevent unmonitored spaces from becoming a breeding ground for inappropriate content. Crackpot and Defamation: Writers might disable comments on answers they believe could attract harmful or inaccurate content. In my case, I have over 34,000 comment spaces and have selectively disabled comments on answers that show signs of devolving into flame wars or attracting questionable content.
