Why Pink Glock 9mm Handguns Are Marketed for Breast Cancer Awareness

While battling kidney cancer, I found that my interest in shooting targets and aids extended beyond my health struggles. I designed and produced millions of shooting targets for the Canadian Military and Cadets, as well as various shooting aides. However, one thing that continues to perplex me is the marketing strategy behind the pink version of the well-known Glock 9mm handgun.

The Real Reason Behind the Pink Glock

Strange, indeed! Some companies will go to great lengths to promote their products, and the pink Glock 9mm handgun is no exception. For us, its marketing team has undoubtedly achieved their goal – making customers believe that buying a pink version supports breast cancer awareness.

However, the truth is that very little of the money generated from the sale of these pink firearms goes toward breast cancer research. These sales are primarily a marketing ploy. Frighteningly, a significant portion of the profits does not contribute to meaningful advancements in cancer research, which is a disappointing reality.

Marketing to a Personal Connection

My wife works in a sporting goods store and sells firearms daily, ranging from pink to various shades of black, stainless steel, or camouflage. She personally does not own any non-traditional finish firearms, including pink ones. This is significant because she tragically lost her mother to complications from breast cancer treatment.

The Science of Firearms Coloring

But why do companies color firearms in such a way? The answer lies in technology and creativity. A little Duracoat and a spray gun can transform a firearm into any color. Personally, I prefer to 'sponge paint' my camouflage patterns, which not only allows for easier change but also provides a better macro-to-micro pattern blending for a more realistic look. This method is preferred for its flexibility and practicality.

Conclusion: A Broader Perspective on Marketing

While the pink Glock handgun is marketed as a way to support breast cancer awareness, it is important to consider the actual impact these sales have. Instead of relying on such marketing tactics, efforts should focus on genuine contributions to cancer research and support for those affected by the disease.
